I am a certified birth doula and a breastfeeding peer counselor for the Louisiana WIC program. My experience with birth led me to start my business.
When I became pregnant with my daughter in 2020 I didn’t know what to expect regarding the process of labor and birth. I had a ton of questions! Fortunately, the program I joined for first time Moms, Nurse Family Partnership provided answers. However, no one counseled me on “informed consent,” not even my doctor.
I had an episiotomy. Although I did not suffer any complications from the procedure, I was not informed of its risks. Also, I didn’t know about the benefits of the placenta and why you should keep it! I didn’t know about the different birthing positions that are vital during labor. I gave birth lying on my back and its mind-boggling! Giving birth on your back is not recommended and the National Library of Medicine says women should avoid it!
If I had hired a doula I am sure my birth experience would’ve been different. For this reason, I have a passion for preparing, providing support, and guidance for families expecting a bundle of Joy!
